About DIY Life

A lot of people enjoy crafting and a little DIY here and there. But how many people live it, breathe it, reside in it on a daily basis? I do, and so does my family. In fact we soak in it so much that we’ve been called borderline Amish. We don’t own a washing machine or dryer, we wash by hand and hang the clothes on the clothes line. We don’t own a dish washer or microwave. We have our own small garden and recycle everything we can manage. We make so many crafts and reuse so many things that we’ve completely recreated our budget. We didn’t always live this way, to be honest we started doing it on accident. When I lost my job and my husband had to become the main supporter of the household which includes 3 kids and one on the way, we had to make some changes. We moved into a cheaper house and didn’t have the money to buy a washer and dryer and the closest laundry mat is a 30 minute drive, I started doing laundry myself at home. Our microwave broke the same time my oldest needed new glasses so we bought the glasses instead. We learned that instead of stressing when things fell apart that we would adapt to it. Adapting became a way of life. We don’t miss the laundry facilities (most of the time :P) or the microwave. Gardening is so relaxing, along with sewing, crocheting, recycling or upcycling as i like to call it, all of it has made a huge difference in our finances. Bills get paid and we don’t suffer because we found a way to deal with what most people call “bad luck”. To us it was life changing and liberating. I am so much happier with where our life is now than I was when we had everything. That is why i decided to make this blog. I feel like so many other people can benefit for our way of life if they just give it a chance. I’m not saying go out and toss your washer, I am just saying that recreating ourselves from wasters to recyclers and learning to DIY has completely changed our lives. I want to share it all with you. That is what this blog is all about.

Now, with all that being said let me tell you about me. My name is Amanda, I am 27 years old with 3 kids, soon to be 4 and a wonderful husband who is supportive in every way. My kids are 8, 6, and 3 and our newest member will be here early July. I love to write, draw, read, and make anything and everything by hand. I have a major DIY obsession that took over our family as you may have read above. It has brought us closer together as a family and we all agree that we don’t hate or regret the way we are living now. All of our needs are met, food in our bellies, roof over our head, and bills are paid. With that we can’t ask for much more. I have been into crafts and crafting since I was a young child and the obsession only grew as I grew older. I hope that my readers will find more than DIY projects when following my blog posts. I hope that you find inspiration, hope and happiness along the way. That is why I am sharing, be we certainly did.
